Frequently Asked Questions

  • How much does it cost to evaluate a project?

E&W charges a minimum trip fee that is 100% refundable with any product or service purchase! We will come to you and perform an initial evaluation of your project. If possible, we will gather information and prepare a no-obligation proposal. If your project is complex and the pertinent data is not available onsite, an engineering study may be necessary to provide an accurate final proposal.

In these instances, a proposal will be prepared for the engineering study and submitted for approval prior to any incurred costs. A detailed proposal will then be generated which will give you the ability to determine if the project will meet your expectations.

  • How do I know what size generator I will need and how much will it cost?

We will come to your site and survey your electrical service(s), then prepare a preliminary design and detailed proposal with multiple options for your approval and submission for financing or appropriations. A residential generator starts at $2700+ installation, while the average cost of a whole house air-cooled generator is around $9,000 installed.

The large price gap is due to the number of service entrances, loads to be connected, and differing site conditions. Commercial/industrial generators start around $12,000+ installation and go up from there.

  • What is a maintenance contract and what types do you offer?

A maintenance contract establishes pre-scheduled preventative maintenance and inspection services that E&W provides, allowing for significant discounts on additional services and benefits needed throughout the contract term. Maintenance contracts vary by facility type and vertical market, however a proposal will be submitted after an initial, no-cost evaluation.

Residential Biennial Electrical Service maintenance (ESM) contracts begin at just $149.50/year.

We offer three types of maintenance contracts:

Residential/Small Commercial Electrical Service Inspection which includes:

    1. One service inspection every two years

    2. 20% discount on all services and trip charges during the contract term

    3. Free client portal, granting you online access to your account history and direct online booking of service requests

Generator Service Contract (eligible for 20% discount when combined with ESM contract) which includes:

    1. Full service of generator over two trips per year

    2. Monitoring of the generator status to promote 100% uptime

    3. Priority service status when scheduling generator service requests

Large Commercial/Industrial Maintenance/PM Contract which includes:

    1. Pre-planned preventative maintenance work as identified in the contract

    2. 20% discount on all services and trip charges during the contract term

    3. Free client portal which gives you online access to your account history and direct online booking of service requests

  • What is the difference between a maintenance contract and a warranty?

A maintenance contract is a contract between E&W Electrical Solutions and the client to perform specific regular maintenance during a set period. E&W’s maintenance contracts also offer the client additional discounts and benefits during the contract term.

A warranty is separate and different from a maintenance contract. It is essentially coverage for the workmanship and is typically offered by the specific product or equipment manufacturer. The coverage of each warranty will be specifically detailed by each respective manufacturer. E&W Electrical Solutions offers warranties for products for which we are certified dealers, but those warranties are fulfilled by the manufacturer, NOT E&W Electrical Solutions.

  • Why do my power factor capacitors keep failing and my power factor is not at 100%?

By in large the cause of failing power factor capacitors is the presence of distortion in your power system. With the advent of power electronics, today’s industry utilizes many non linear devices such as Variable Speed drives, digital power supplies, arc welders, etc.

These non linear devices introduce distortion onto the power that tends to propagate throughout the system and cause havoc on other devices in the system. We have solutions for this issue that will clean and optimize your power system while cutting your power demand cost considerably.

  • What is the difference between an electrical services maintenance contract (ESMC) and a generator service contract (GSMC)?

A generator service contract includes service on a specific generator once a year. An Electrical System Maintenance contract includes inspection of the service on a predetermined schedule and does not include generator or service/inspection.

If you have a generator, you may purchase the ESMC and get a discount on the GSMC, warranties, and any additional electrical work that may be needed during the term of the contract.

  • We have a co-generation system on site; can you still lower our energy costs?

Yes, our technologies improve the efficiency of your distribution system and thus would allow you to use less electricity from the power company or allow you to sell more back to the power company.

  • How do you optimize a power system?

Power quality has become a major issue in modern commercial and industrial facilities largely due to the advent of power electronics. We have several metrics that can be monitored to expose any power quality issues.

These metrics include abnormal voltages, currents, harmonics, transients, and unbalances. Identified issues can be mitigated through engineered solutions and installed by our technicians. We can assist your maintenance management in implementation of a preventive or predictive maintenance program by monitoring power usage and quality to ensure an optimal power system.

  • What is prefabrication and how will that affect my project?

Prefabrication is the off-job-site fabrication of pre-designed electrical assemblies. Certain projects lend themselves well to pre-fabricated systems, which can be assembled inside a temperature-controlled environment and pre-packaged by room or area, then shipped to the job site for final placement.

This essentially removes the effects of weather and inefficiencies created by multiple tradesmen competing to work in the same areas and reduces the labor on site by up to 75%.

  • What makes you different from other electrical contracting companies?

Operating for 38 years, we have learned a thing or two about providing high-quality electrical contracting services. At E&W Electrical Solutions, we employ a systemic, organized approach to managing projects and service which includes extensive pre-planning, real experience databases, online scheduling, and off-site prefabrication (where possible).

This approach allows our team to be 20%-40% more effective than our competition, allowing us to hire the best team members and pass additional cost savings along to our clients.

  • What types of facilities have you installed systems?

We have installed electrical systems and generators in:

    • Automotive Facilities
    • Hotel
    • Large Industrial Buildings
    • Small Industrial Buildings
    • Government
    • Public Works

  • Do you offer financing?

Projects that include personal property, such as generators and solar arrays, as well as pre-engineered Power Optimization/Energy savings projects can usually be financed or leased.

Let your customer service representative know you are interested in financing or leasing and they will let you know if it is available for your specific project.
